Offline mode for Dropbox

Internet access is NOT required once a chart exists in Orpheus’s cache. Charts can be cached in several different ways:

• When a chart is opened in Orpheus for the first time, it is cached
• Cache all charts function fi via Orpheus => Settings => Cache all charts.

Internet access IS required for a few things:

• When you first link your Dropbox to Orpheus via “Settings”
• To import a new Dropbox folder via “Music Folders”
• The first time you open a chart (if chart has not been cached using “Cache all charts”)
• To fetch new charts added to your Dropbox

Recommendation

If you expect to be using Orpheus to access Dropbox files a lot I would recommend using the “Cache all charts” option.  Do this at a time/place where you have a good WiFi connection. It will do exactly like it says – cache all your files. It can take a pretty long time if you have a lot of files so put the kettle on, and wait patiently for it to finish. 🙂

Once charts are cached they load quickly in the future without any delay. It will also mean you can access your charts offline via Orpheus.

Historical note for long-time users

In October 2017 an update the Dropbox API changed the way offline mode worked. So between October 2017 and July 2019 we relied on a somewhat hacky work-around using Dropbox’s own offline mode.  Tutorial here for posterity. This method still works. It’s perfectly safe to continue using this method if you wish to do so.  But for new users, the cache method described above makes things much easier.
